THE PERFECT “CLAIRE”

ASFA 9th Grader Lands the Coveted Role of “Claire”

in Birmingham’s Chocolate Nutcracker

(Birmingham, Alabama) – At the age of 14, Alexandria “Alex” Fuller is already experiencing a dream come true.  She has been cast in the most popular role of “Claire” in LaVerne Reed’s Christmas masterpiece, The Chocolate Nutcracker.

Since the production was introduced to Birmingham in 2009, the role of Claire has been performed by guest talent.  However this year, Ms. Reed has presented a special opportunity for local dancers to seize key roles where their capability meets the professional-level standard required.  After three years in the production, Alex’s hard work has truly paid off.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity Ms. Laverne is giving me.  I plan to meet and exceed her expectations on December 14th!” says Alex.

A native of Birmingham, Alexandria is the daughter of Nina Fuller and John White.  She began ballet and tap dancing at the age of 2 through Corky Bell and continued dance with The Pointe Dance Arts and the Fine Arts Preparatory program.  As a ninth grader at ASFA, she continues to study pointe, classical ballet and jazz.

The Chocolate Nutcracker is a magical twist on the traditional ballet story which is told through the eyes of a little girl from Harlem.  Claire, the main character, takes a fascinating journey across the globe and experiences a multicultural celebration of dance and adventure.  There will be a school matinee performance at 10 a.m. and an evening performance at 7 p.m. on December 14, 2012 at the Boutwell Auditorium.

Project Hopewell Inc. (PHI) was incorporated in 2002 and organized exclusively as a publicly supported faith-based, charity and education organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Laverne Reed is an acclaimed artistic director, writer and choreographer whose creation The Chocolate Nutcracker has been a sensation on the national scene for more than 16 years.
